EC&S and The Michigan Concrete Association, together with their Environmental legal counsel, took a proactive approach with the MDEQ to address the issue of ground and surface water discharge. EC&S provided a cost-effective solution for the industry by creating an innovative design, which helped the industry stay ahead of regulatory enforcement. We acted as liaison in this cooperative effort between industry and government. We then provided educational opportunities by participating in their trade shows and association functions. Due to its environmental foundation, EC&S is accustomed to working outside of the traditional structure of typical engineering firms. With our unique company structure, we are able to provide leadership and can crossover easily between the environmental aspects and the design of a system of this nature. We feel this is a good model for other industries to follow in approaching their water resource issues proactively and cost effectively, prior to enforcement activities. Many small industry sectors have environmental issues that aren't being addressed for a variety of reasons. We see an opportunity to assist these sectors with their needs by collaborating with their industry associations.
